I talk to many businesses that chose an SEO agency because this agency ranked high on search engines. They also chose an agency because they got guaranteed results, or they chose one because that agency offered them lower prices than others.
Just so you know, businesses can rank high on search engines for a period of time, and then lose their rankings, and that happens mainly because such businesses build shady links that either get lost with time, or/ and because Google flags such sites.
Alright, so let me share with you few points to keep in mind when choosing an SEO agency:
First, meet the CEO. It’s highly important to meet the CEO of the agency you are interviewing to get a feeling of how this person is, and how knowledgeable he or she is about SEO. As they say, it all starts at the top.
Second, meet the account manager. This will give you again a feeling of how this person is, and how knowledgeable he or she is about SEO and digital marketing.
Third, meet the people who do the actual work. By asking them about how they write SEO content, build links, and optimize landing pages, you will get a feeling of how knowledgeable these people are.
Fourth, check live case studies. It is important to see live case studies and not ones on powerpoint presentations. Seeing live case studies that show organic traffic growth, keyword ranking growth, and work done to achieve these results will give you a real indication of the work and results achieved.
Fifth, check the backlinks they are building. It is important to see from what type of sites they are getting links. If you see that the links they are getting are genuine and from known sites, then you will understand that this agency knows what it’s doing, and cares about their clients website reputation. But if you see that the links are acquired from shady and not known sites, with possible high spam scores, or from forum comments, business directories, or social bookmarking sites, then you will understand that this agency is doing the basic SEO work that doesn’t get results long term, and could possibly harm your business in the long run.
Sixth, check the content quality they are writing. Ask to see content they have written to understand the quality of copywriting and how SEO optimized their content is.
Seventh, and that’s what I advise anyone that wants to invest in SEO, is to take an SEO course and follow SEO creators like me that share SEO tips on a regular basis. If you want to take SEO courses, you can check Moz Academy, SEMRush Academy, or Udemy.
When you cross check the list I just shared with you, you will be more equipped to choosing the right SEO agency, and ensuring you get the results you are looking for.
